Moving Services: The Art and Science of Moving
A survey taken by The Employee Relocation Council found that
people listed “moving” as the third most stressful event
in their lives after divorce and changing jobs.
We’ve had clients
doing all three at the same time....
Sorting
Okay, so you’ve accumulated your fair share of “stuff”.
The “stuff” is everywhere - in the back of closets, cabinets and
drawers. When was the last time your car was in the garage?
The one thing that we hear over and over again from clients is, “Only
I can sort through my own stuff.” Sorting may be difficult because
many of us are emotionally attached to our stuff. You bought it and saved it
for a reason, and now, it’s hard to let it go. Guiding your sorting process
and keeping you on track are vital to a successful moving experience - something
that all our clients comment on and really appreciate when we’ve finished
their moves.
“A sorting session with Gayle is quite an amazing experience. What took
us weeks of ‘thinking about it’ and then a couple more weeks of
kicking boxes around only took Gayle a few hours to actually DO something with
it!”
L. Upson, Kentfield
Packing
Never pack your watches with the shower gel....
Yes, there is an “art” to packing. It’s not just throwing
a few things in a box because they all happen to fit. It’s about
taking care of the things you care about. You want your things to get there without
chips, scratches and dents. You need to know what is in each box, and which
boxes must be opened first. You want to know that all the caps on the shampoo
bottles were tightened before they went into the box. And, you want to be able
to unpack as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Packing
a box to go in a moving truck is really a physics lesson:
| |
Pressure (one box stacked on top of another,
10 boxes high) |
| x |
Inertia (truck moving forward and then
slamming on the brakes) |
|
| |
Odds of your china arriving in one piece! |
Yes, we unpacked a client whose housekeeper had put his Rolex watches
in with the bath supplies - guess what we found when we opened that
box!
Moving Day
Picture this: 8 am on Saturday morning
One giant moving van blocking the neighbor’s driveway, 6 grumpy
moving guys who haven’t had coffee yet, your two toddlers crying
for breakfast, the dog madly barking, and you, having been up all night,
are still not finished packing ....
We know that after your last move you said, “Never Again!”
but it doesn’t have to be that way for you now.
“Moving day was actually FUN - Gayle coordinated the entire
move. She brought food for us and the movers, supervised
every aspect of the day, and knew where everything would go. We didn’t
worry about a thing. I’ll never move without her again! “
J. Lindsay, Danville
Unpacking
Once we arrived at an unpacking job and discovered
all of the boxes were marked with only room designations and nothing
else! So, which "kitchen" box has the can opener in it?
Often the closets are smaller than you thought, the sofa will not
fit against the wall as you had hoped, and the kitchen you fell in love with
is not the same one you got. I have solved these surprises and dozens more
while unpacking.
I know how to put a kitchen together. With a background in
professional cooking and putting together zillions of kitchens for clients,
I’ve
learned that all kitchens, big and small, new and old, have problems to solve.
The same with bathrooms, closets and every other room in a new house. You
will save countless hours of guessing where things should go and get your
house on the right track -- from day one -- by putting my years of experience
unpacking and organizing to work for you.
“
We had moved several times and each time it’s been nothing
short of disastrous...we were not looking forward to it.
Gayle was 100% in charge of EVERYTHING - from the packing, unpacking,
organizing, and coordinating with the movers. She did an amazing job. We
were so comfortable that we went on vacation the day of our move
and came back to our new home, completely unpacked, organized and ready
to go! Our
move was one of the smoothest, most stress-free experiences we’ve
ever had.”

How All Things Home Works
Gayle will meet with you to plan all the aspects of your
move. Together we
will discuss the best way to sort, pack and unpack at your new home. You will
decide on a timetable and choose your moving day, get assistance with selecting
your movers and we will arrange for boxes and supplies to be delivered to your
door.
If you are moving locally, Gayle will accompany you to the new home and help
you plan the furniture layouts. If you are selling your house, Gayle can work
with you and your Realtor to choose which of your furnishings may be left to “stage” your
house appropriately.
The All Things Home team will assist you in sorting through all the years
of accumulated possessions quickly and efficiently. We will help you with the
tough decisions of what to keep, donate or discard.
At the same time, our team will be packing the things that are going with
you. If you choose, a detailed inventory list will be made for each box. This
is especially important for boxes going into storage.
On moving day, we will work with your moving company to get all your boxes
and furniture properly loaded and off to your new home. You
don’t even
have to be there on moving day. Gayle will do a final walk through to see that
nothing is left behind and then lock up your empty house.
If you are moving locally, Gayle will meet the movers at your new home and
supervise the unloading and furniture placement. The All Things Home team will
begin unpacking, making the beds, hanging clothes, and preparing
the baths and kitchen for your first night in the new house. We will return
daily until the house is unpacked and organized to perfection!
As each move is unique, you may choose to use all or just some of the services
we offer.
Please
call Gayle at 510-654-7983 to discuss the details of your moving plans. There
is no charge for telephone consultations.
