Downsizing and Senior Moves
After one of
my Senior Downsizing Workshops for Aegis Living, at Cardinal
Point, a man came to me to say that his wife was having so
much trouble downsizing the home they've lived in for 30 years,
he just wanted to give up...later, a woman came up to tell
me the same story about her husband -- and yes, they were
married to each other!
Have you lived in your house for 5
years, 10 years or even longer? Are you now faced with
moving to a condo or senior apartment that is considerably smaller?
Does moving seem like an overwhelming
task to you? What exactly will you take? How will you
sort through all those years of accumulated “stuff”?
Which pieces of furniture will fit in the new space? How will
you and your spouse avoid arguing over what to keep and what
to discard?
Would you appreciate support dealing
with the possessions of a loved one who is no longer here to
help you decide? What if your children live hundreds
of miles away? Who will help you? And, how do you keep your
energy level up for sorting and deciding day after day?
Imagine letting go of those things
that no longer serve you and keeping only what you love and
need. This liberating experience can add to the quality
of your new life. When you are finished you be surrounded by
the very best of what you have collected over the years and
none of the other miscellaneous “stuff” that has
accumulated in your house.
I have worked on many seniors moves and I have
found that it is one of the most rewarding work experiences
I have. My goal is not only to get you moved but to make it
as pleasant an experience as possible!
How Gayle Works
I will meet with you in your current home,
and we will discuss your needs and the details of your move.
If you are staying in the Bay Area, I will accompany you to
your new residence and take measurements and photographs of
the layout. I will then measure and check each piece of furniture
to be sure it will fit the space. If you’d like, I will
make suggestions on which accessory items you might keep and
assist you with shopping for any new items you might need.
I will work with you through the entire
sorting, packing, moving and unpacking process. If
you are moving out of the area, I will assist you in choosing
the best of your furnishings to take to your new home.

“What I really
appreciated about Gayle was how much confidence and good humor
she brought to my move. She really paid attention
to my needs and how I was feeling throughout the entire process.
Gayle learned my style sense and worked with it, without imposing
her own on me. She is a skilled problem solver and I can
say without hesitation that what I had been dreading was actually
one of the best experiences in moving that I’ve ever had.

“Being disabled,
I didn't know how I was going to get my condo packed and ready
for sale. My realtor brought in Gayle and she took charge
of the whole thing -- from sorting through years of possessions
and paper, to packing it up and then staging my condo for sale.
We sold the condo in 10 days and got way over the asking price.
I can not even express how grateful I am. All I can say
is - do yourself a favor and hire Gayle!”
